Erich G. Randolph, MDDr. Erich Randolph Featured In Atlanta Magazine

Story Documents Atlanta Oncology Associates Physician’s Successful Treatment of Former Editor-in-Chief’s Prostate Cancer

Dr. Erich G. Randolph of Atlanta Oncology Associates — one of the largest radiation therapy groups in the Southeast — was featured in the March issue of Atlanta Magazine. The story, a first-hand account by the magazine’s former editor-in-chief Lee Walburn, recognized Dr. Randolph’s role in successfully treating Walburn’s recent bout with prostate cancer.

“We’re thrilled to have helped Mr. Walburn through his treatment,” Dr. Randolph said. “It’s important that people know that with early screening and the right therapies, there is great hope for beating prostate cancer.”

The story documents Walburn’s cancer diagnosis and successful radiation treatment, during which Dr. Randolph implanted 86 palladium seeds directly into the prostate tissue. This method, according to the article, is best as “radiation travels such a short distance to the cancers,” leaving healthy cells minimally affected. Other Atlanta doctors, including urologist Dr. Steven Morganstern, also contributed their expertise.

Dr. Randolph, whose special interests in radiation oncology are prostate, breast, and colorectal cancers, is a member of the American Cancer Society and served on the advisory Board at the Atlanta City Unit. He is also a member of the Medical Association of Atlanta, the Atlanta Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Gilbert H. Fletcher Society, and the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and is past Vice-Chair of the Grady Hospital-Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority.

Lee Walburn was Atlanta Magazine editor-in-chief from 1987-2002. He also has worked for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Macon Telegraph, as and was director of public relations and promotions for the Atlanta Braves baseball team.
